Visa-free regime between Russia and Qatar comes into force

21 February 2020

On February 23, a visa-free regime between Russia and Qatar comes into force.

Citizens of two countries who do not intend to work, study or reside in the territory of another state are exempted from visa requirements.

The period of permitted stay of citizens of Russia and Qatar in the territory of another state without visas, however, should not exceed 90 days for each period of 180 days.

In an interview for RIA Novosti, Executive Director of the Association of Russian Tour Operators  Maya Lomidze noted that any visa concessions between countries always lead to an increase in mutual tourist flows.

Nevertheless, the growth of Russia's popularity as a tourist destination among guests from Qatar will be not only due to the visa-free regime but the promotion of Russia.

“However, now the number of guests from Qatar to the Russian Federation is so small that this country is not even mentioned in the statistical reports. Obviously, in order to interest Qatari tourists with traveling around Russia, it is necessary to actively engage in promoting the tourism opportunities of our country”, said Lomidze.
