Scientific director of the Institute of Oriental studies, member of the Group of strategic vision Russia – Islamic world Vitaly Naumkin commented on the escalation of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier, the US announced its intention to create an international coalition to patrol the waters around Iran and Yemen.
According to the expert, this unilateral action cannot ensure security.
A good counterweight to this controversial initiative is the system of collective security proposed by Russia, which sets one of the central goals of abandoning the permanent military presence of foreign powers in the countries of the region.
"We are probably talking about the gradual progress towards this goal. And, of course, such a goal should be set to the states of the region, only they themselves can solve it, no one imposes it on them. But basically, I think this initiative is the only possible option to reduce tensions. I believe that it will be effective if states manage to agree on it in an inclusive manner," said the expert.
