29 November 2019

The Russian model of relations between nationalities and confessions can be acceptable for most countries of the world, where problems between Muslim and non-Muslim populations exist. These relations are undermined by extremists and terrorists, whose actions provoke discrimination against Muslims. This was stated today at the V meeting of the Group of Strategic Vision  "Russia – Islamic world" in Ufa by  Scientific Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, member of the GSV, academician Vitaly Naumkin.

According to him, nowadays Islamophobia, migrantophobia and arabophobia continue to "flourish" in Europe  The confrontation of citizens of western countries and the Muslim world is the goal of extremists.

"Terrorists lost most of the territories in Syria and Iraq. At the new stage, they focus not only on Asia and Africa but also in Europe, where they go to spread their misanthropic ideas and hostility, " Naumkin said, in particular.

The expert also touched upon the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee in Geneva. The political process, as the expert noted, is going on but there are many forces that are trying to undermine it.

The topic of this year's meeting of the GSV, chaired by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov,  is " Interfaith harmony:   the experience of Russia and member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)".
