12 May 2020

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the end of the period of non-working days introduced in the country due to the spread of coronavirus from May 12.

The day before, at a meeting on the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the country, he stressed that the fight against the epidemic does not stop, and the risk of spreading the virus persists, even in those territories where there is a favorable situation. The President asked the Russians to take all precautionary measures with understanding.

According to the head of state, the measures taken allow for gradual easing of restrictions, but the final decision remains with the regional authorities.

Putin urged not to copy the process of easing measures from region to region, as the exit from the coronavirus epidemic will take time and all sanitary requirements must be maintained. Therefore, mass events are still prohibited in the country.

The self-isolation regime remains mandatory for people at risk - those who are over 65 years old and suffer from chronic diseases.

Russia now has the world's second-fastest rate of new infections. The number of identified patients with COVID-19 in the country exceeded 232 thousand, more than 43 thousand of them recovered, 2116 patients died.

In a number of regions, including Moscow, the regime of general self-isolation continues: in the capital, it was extended until May 31.

In addition, residents of the city are required to wear gloves and masks in public transport, shops and at work. Similar measures are in place in a number of other regions.
