The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin for the first time commented on the recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which was previously announce by the US President Donald Trump. According to the head of the Russian state, this decision contradicts the UN Security Council resolutions.
«As for the recognition of the Golan Heights as part of Israeli, you know the position of Russia. It is outline in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. This solution (of the United States) is contrary to the UN Security Council’s relevant resolutions», Vladimir Putin pointed out, in particular, answering an appropriate question at a press conference following talks with the head of Turkey, Recep Erdogan.
We recall, the US President Donald Trump signed on March 26th the document on the recognition of the Golan Heights Israeli territory.
The Golan Heights were part of Syria, until 1967. Israel captured two thirds of the plateau territory during the six-day war in June 1967, and in 1981 annexed it. The UN Security Council did not admit this decision.
