Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin held a meeting with Chairman of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates Saqr Ghobash, the parties agreed to sign an agreement on inter-parliamentary cooperation. This was reported on the Duma website on Wednesday.
"Vyacheslav Volodin met in the State Duma with Chairman of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates Saqr Ghobash. Vyacheslav Volodin and Saqr Ghobash discussed the development of inter-parliamentary relations between Russia and the UAE," the statement said.
It is noted that the parties agreed to sign an agreement on cooperation between the State Duma and the UAE Federal National Council, as well as to intensify contacts through specialized parliamentary committees. "It is very important that cooperation develops within the parliamentary dimension. Therefore, we consider today's meeting as an opportunity not only to strengthen relations, but also to give them an impetus in the framework of inter-parliamentary cooperation, which has not been effectively used until now," Volodin stressed.
According to him, it is important for parliamentarians of the two countries to ensure by legislative solutions the agreements reached by the heads of the two states.
"Our countries have achieved impressive results - the trade turnover between Russia and the UAE has grown by 71% over the past year. According to the results of the first quarter of this year, the trade turnover amounted to more than $3 billion," said the speaker of the State Duma, adding that investment cooperation is also expanding - the volume of mutual investments exceeded $3.2 billion. Volodin stressed the need to strengthen and maintain interregional ties. "UAE relations with the Chechen Republic are actively developing. It is important to note the contribution of the head of the Republic Ramzan Kadyrov, who has built these relations guided by the principles of mutual respect and creation of good conditions for business development," he said.
The speaker of the State Duma also noted the development of cooperation in tourism: last year about 1 million Russian tourists visited the UAE.
Ghobash, in turn, noted that Russia has very good relations with many Arab countries, but the dialogue between Russia and the UAE is special. He also conveyed a greeting from UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Russian President Vladimir Putin and invited Volodin to pay an official visit to the UAE.
