"Wall of Memory" in honor of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War was opened in the capital of Kazakhstan

The opening ceremony of a memorial complex "Wall of Memory" in honor of police officers who participated in the Great Patriotic War, was held on Friday in the Kazakh capital. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic.


"The memorial complex was erected in honor of the 77th anniversary of the Victory and the memory of those Kazakhs - members of the internal affairs bodies, who showed exceptional heroism, defending the homeland. The appearance of the Wall of Memory is an important event, thanks to which the memory of the brave soldiers who defended their homeland from enemy invasions and ensured a peaceful life for the future generation will be multiplied," the statement says.

 



The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Eraly Tugzhanov, head of the capital's administration Altai Kulginov, Interior Minister Marat Akhmetzhanov, veterans of internal affairs and the Great Patriotic War, department employees and National Guard servicemen. Those gathered laid flowers to the memorial and observed a minute of silence.


"Years and decades pass, but before the eyes of the younger generation are preserved vivid images of those who gained immortality, not sparing their lives for the sake of their native land. The memory of the heroism of people of that period will remain forever in people's hearts, it will be embodied in books and songs, monuments and memorials, in museums' expositions and street names", the press service of the ministry noted.


During the Great Patriotic War, 1.2m Kazakhstani citizens were mobilised to the front; half of these citizens perished on the battlefield. More than 500 Kazakhstani citizens were decorated as Heroes of the Soviet Union. According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Kazakhstan, there are 381 veterans of the Great Patriotic War and 97,758 citizens who contributed to the victory.
