30 June 2020

The spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world is accelerating, despite improvements in some States,  Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, announced.

"Some countries have seen an increase in cases when opening their economies and returning to social life. Most people remain vulnerable to the virus. He still has room to turn around. <...> The hard reality is that the situation is not over yet, " he said.

The WHO Director-General noted that June 30 would mark exactly six months since the organization received the first reports of an unknown type of pneumonia in China.

Six months later, the number of infected people in the world reached ten million, 500 thousand died, he added.

Earlier, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that the world has entered a new and dangerous phase of the pandemic. According to him, this is due to the fact that many people are "tired of sitting at home", while the virus is still spreading rapidly and remains deadly.
