World changes are not temporary, but fundamental and irreversible - Putin

16 June 2023

Changes in the world in all its spheres are not temporary, but fundamental, deep and irreversible, under these conditions a proactive economic policy is necessary, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

"I have already said, and I want to repeat it once again: changes in the world in all its spheres are fundamental, deep and irreversible. This is what matters. Under these conditions it is necessary to move only forward. And this means [that] we need a proactive economic policy which may be built and implemented in close cooperation with representatives of the business community, with our businessmen," he said.

Putin also noted that Russia needs to shift to a sovereign economy that will shape demand itself. "Such an economy - it is often called a supply economy - implies a large-scale build-up of productive forces and services. The entire infrastructure network should be strengthened everywhere, advanced technologies should be developed, and new modern industrial capacities and entire industries should be created," the president explained.
