The world community must put the Palestinian issue at the top of the international agenda, Chinese President Xi Jinping said during a meeting in Riyadh with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
"No matter how the international and regional situation changes, China has always firmly supported the Palestinian people in their just cause of restoring legitimate national rights and has always stood by the Palestinian people," Xi Jinping said in a statement published Friday on the Chinese foreign ministry website.
"The international community should put the Palestinian issue at the top of the international agenda, <...> promote the resumption of peace talks," he pointed out.
"China will continue to make every effort for a speedy, just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue," Xi Jinping summarized.
The Chinese president arrived in the Saudi capital on Wednesday. On Thursday, he had already held separate talks with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. On Friday, Xi Jinping will attend a meeting with the leaders of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as the China-Arab summit. Thirty Arab leaders and organizations have been invited to the upcoming meetings in Riyadh.
