Zakharova announced Lavrov's talks with Iranian and Iraqi foreign ministers in Moscow

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will hold talks with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on November 25, who will visit Moscow on a two-day working visit,  official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told a briefing.

 


"During the scheduled for November 25 negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Iraqi counterpart, the parties will discuss topical issues of the global and regional agenda with an emphasis on the situation around Syria, the Middle East settlement, the Persian Gulf zone, the situation in Yemen," Zakharova said. The diplomat noted that this is the first trip of Hussein to the Russian capital as the head of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.

 


According to her, special attention will be paid to the consolidation of efforts to counter international terrorism. It is also planned to consider in detail practical tasks for the development of the whole complex of bilateral relations, including in the context of the work of the Russian-Iraqi intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.

 


"We note with satisfaction that the bilateral political dialogue is regular and constructive. It is distinguished by a high degree of trust, proximity or coincidence of approaches on key international and Middle East issues," concluded the diplomat.

 


Lavrov will also hold talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on November 23. Zakharova noted that this visit to Moscow would be the fourth for Zarif in 2020. "It is expected to continue the exchange of views on a number of topical international issues, including the situation in the region of Nagorno-Karabakh, around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to resolve the situation around the Iranian nuclear program, the situation in Syria, Afghanistan, the Persian Gulf zone, and so on. Of course, there will be a discussion of the bilateral agenda, first of all, its trade and economic component in the context of the implementation of key joint projects in the field of energy, transport, prospects for building cultural and humanitarian ties," she added.

 


The Foreign Ministry representative also stressed that the Russian-Iranian relations continue to develop actively. Despite the spread of coronavirus infection, countries maintain an "intensive and trustful dialogue", including at the highest level, at the level of representatives of parliaments, ministries and other agencies.
