Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev discussed in detail the visit of the Azerbaijani leader to Kiev in a telephone conversation held the day before. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova at a briefing on Thursday.
Aliyev had previously visited Ukraine, where he among other things held talks with the country's President Vladimir Zelensky.
"The topic of the Azerbaijani president's visit to Kiev on January 14 was discussed in detail during a telephone conversation between the presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan, it was held on January 18 at the initiative of the Azerbaijani side," the diplomat said.
Answering the question about the possibility of creating a transport corridor uniting GUAM countries (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova) discussed by Aliyev and Zelensky, Zakharova explained that "building bilateral relations is the sovereign right of each state, it is important that these ties and contacts are not directed against third countries".
