Rosaviatsiya and the Russian MFA are working to resolve the problem with restrictions on overflight over Jordan for a number of domestic airlines. This was said in a statement issued on Monday by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
The diplomat noted that some Russian airlines, transporting tourists from Russia to Egyptian resorts and back, are forced to delay flights and create alternative flight routes because of the restrictions imposed by the aviation authorities of Jordan under pressure from the European Commission.
"Rosaviatsiya and the Russian MFA are making active efforts to resolve this issue. However, we proceed from the fact that Jordan is a friendly state of Russia, and we do not consider the decision adopted in Amman as politically motivated and directed against the interests of our country," the commentary reads.
The Russian foreign ministry official stressed that Moscow fully fulfills its obligations in the sphere of flight safety, including in accordance with the intergovernmental agreement on air communication between Russia and Jordan dated 2009.
"We expect that we will be able to allay our partners' concerns about the safety of domestic aircraft, which have all the necessary documents to conduct transit flights through Jordanian airspace, including insurance policies issued in accordance with ICAO recommendations," Zakharova summarized.
On December 15, iFly flights from Moscow (Vnukovo) to Egypt were canceled due to restrictions of Jordanian airspace. Rosaviatsiya recommended the company to re-book passengers on other airlines. At the same time, iFly itself tried to re-route and fly over Syria. The next day, iFly announced that it would cancel its flights to Egypt at least until December 19 and would resume them on December 20.
