Zakharova: Russia cannot discuss the START Treaty with the US as long as it supplies arms to Ukraine

Russia does not intend to discuss the Strategic Arms Reduction and Limitation Treaty (START) with the US as long as Washington is supplying weapons to Kiev, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Sputnik radio on Wednesday.

"The United States of America intends to supply even more weapons to the conflict region, in which the Russian Federation is directly involved. That is, they will supply all these weapons, they will instigate the Kiev regime to even more bloodshed, they will allocate money for the extremist activities that are carried out under the aegis of these inadequate people on Bankova (houses the presidential administration of Ukraine - TASS), and we will sit at the same table with them and discuss issues of mutual security, including in their interests?" she said.

Zakharova stressed that Moscow highly appreciates the START, it meets the mutual interests of Russia and America, but there should be appropriate conditions for its discussion.

The Russian MFA said Monday that a meeting of the US-Russia bilateral consultative commission on the START, previously scheduled for November 29-December 6 in Cairo, was postponed to a later date.
