Russia will work closely with Arab and Muslim partners to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, according to a statement from Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova. Her comments followed the recent Arab League-Organization of Islamic Cooperation (AL-OIC) summit on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, held in Saudi Arabia.
“We are ready for further, close coordination with our Arab and Muslim partners, as well as other allies, in the interests of de-escalating the conflict and moving toward a comprehensive political-diplomatic solution based on well-known international frameworks,” Zakharova emphasized.
She highlighted that, following the November 11 summit convened at Saudi Arabia's initiative, a joint statement called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, adherence to relevant UN General Assembly and Security Council resolutions, and the provision of necessary humanitarian aid. The document also stressed the importance of stabilizing the situation by upholding the Palestinian people's right to establish a sovereign state in line with international legal foundations for Israeli-Palestinian resolution. The appeal also urged the global community to support this goal.
Zakharova noted that the consensus reached at the Riyadh summit aligns closely with Russia’s fundamental approach to the issue.
“We highly value the commitment of regional states to take a leading role in promoting the urgent cessation of violence in the Middle East and stabilizing the broader region,” she concluded.
The first meeting of this kind was held in Riyadh in November 2023.
