No Russian citizens were among the victims of the November 5 explosion of a Sierra-Leone petrol truck in the country's capital Freetown. This was stated in a comment by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova distributed on Monday.
"According to information coming from the Russian embassy in the Republic of Guinea, which is accredited concurrently in the Republic of Sierra Leone, there are no Russian citizens among those injured in Freetown," she pointed out. - "We express our condolences and sympathy to the families and friends of the victims, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured," she added.
The diplomat noted that Julius Maada Bio, President of the country, who was on a working visit to Great Britain, had to interrupt his foreign tour and return home, where he personally visited the place of the tragedy. "The Sierra Leonean leader assured that state support would be given to the families of the victims. Vice President Mohamed Julde Jallo, accompanied by the leadership of the National emergency management agency, visited several hospitals in the capital where the wounded are hospitalized," Zakharova added.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, as a result of the incident, "residential houses and stores were destroyed and more than a dozen cars were burned."
The explosion happened in the late evening of November 5 in the capital of Sierra Leone, Freetown. A gasoline truck with a full fuel tanker collided with a truck carrying granite slabs. According to the latest Reuters reports, the death toll from the explosion rose to 115.
