Russia and Iran share the same key points of view on the situation around the conflict in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh republic, in particular on the issue of the truce's irreplaceability, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told a briefing on Thursday.
"The topic of escalation in the Nagorno-Karabakh zone has been discussed by the Russian and Iranian leadership at both the high and highest levels since the resumption of hostilities," she said. - We note the coincidence of the sides' positions on the key points of the situation settlement, in particular on the most important at the current stage: on the non-alternativeness of the ceasefire and the beginning of the negotiation process. We know that Tehran supports and highly appreciates Russia's respective daily efforts both in its national capacity and within the OSCE Minsk Group".
Zakharova noted that Moscow would continue a dialogue with Tehran on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and will take into account Iranian ideas and assessments of the situation in its work. Iran's balanced position is also important for the parties to the conflict," she continued. - "We are confident that it will help them come to an understanding of the hopelessness and ruinousness of the continuation of hostility and bloodshed".
Iran is on the border with the conflict zone. On October 15, IRIB TV-radio broadcasting corporation reported that eight missiles fired from the conflict zone around Nagorno-Karabakh broke down on the territory of Iran. They hit a populated area, as a result, the damage was caused to several houses and one person was wounded. All in all, according to IRIB, about 50 rockets and shells flew into Iran during the aggravation of the conflict. On October 19, the official representative of the Iranian ministry of foreign affairs Said Khatibzadeh stated that Tehran would respond to any attacks on its territory accordingly.
