The Russian language in Kyrgyzstan will have the status of an official language in the future. This was said by Sadyr Zhaparov, who won the presidential election in Kyrgyzstan, in an interview to the TV channel "Russia-24" on Wednesday.
"The Russian language has had an official status and will continue to have an official status," he said.
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Zhaparov said, Kyrgyzstan and Russia "have become allies, close partners," and the relationship between the two countries is "like brothers," so "high diplomatic relations with Russia will continue." Zhaparov noted that "all Kyrgyz people know that it will be very difficult without Russia because economically and geopolitically Russia is the main ally and partner".
On January 10, the early presidential elections were held in Kyrgyzstan, as well as the referendum, in which the citizens chose the form of governance - presidential or parliamentary. There were 17 candidates running for president. According to the CEC, after processing the data from more than 98% of polling stations, Sadyr Japarov won more than 79% of the votes. The leader had to receive more than half of the vote to win in the first round. Over 80% of citizens supported the transition to a presidential form of government.
