5.1 magnitude earthquake hits Java island

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake was registered Monday on the island of Java in Indonesia. This was reported by the seismological network of the Hong Kong Observatory, which registered the tremors at 14:21 Chinese time (09:21 Moscow time).


Their epicenter was 74 km southeast of Jakarta. According to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the source was located at a depth of 5 kilometers.


At least two people were killed, Kompas news portal reported, citing a representative of the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure.


According to its data, residents of Cianjur district in West Java province were killed, and at least four other people were injured. Seven residential buildings, as well as a school, a hospital and several administrative buildings are currently reported to have been damaged.
