Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ramazan Abdulatipov spoke at the International Conference "Russia - Islamic World: Practical Steps in Media Cooperation" held in Moscow on Thursday.
He stressed that confrontation between the West and the East has recently aggravated. Muslim countries have suffered for hundreds of years from aggressive policies of Western countries. Today, a similar attitude is directed toward Russia.
"In fact, this is being done because Russia is one of the main fighters for a new model of international relations. In this sense, the solidarity of Muslim countries is felt. Russia has a favorable experience of cooperation with the Islamic world, but after Russian President Vladimir Putin's speech at the Islamic summit in Malaysia in 2003, a new stage of restoring and strengthening the Islamic vector of Russia's foreign policy has begun. The Ministry of foreign affairs of the Russian Federation, the Group "Russia - Islamic World", and the parliament and Committees on international affairs play a special role in this work," he said.
Abdulatipov also recalled the recent visit of the OIC secretary-general and his deputies to Russia, when "...the main directions of interaction between Russia and the OIC were outlined." "We face the task of providing information support for this important direction of Russia - OIC cooperation," the speaker stressed.
The organizers of the International Conference "Russia - Islamic World: Practical Steps in Media Cooperation" are the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World", the International News Agency Sputnik, the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA).
Key questions to be discussed include the current state of cooperation between media outlets of Russia and the Islamic world; possibilities of implementing joint programs/projects/initiatives in the media field; additional measures for more efficient media cooperation in the future; the venue and topics of the next "Russia - Islamic world" conference for the journalists and its topic.
