Airlines Suspend Flights to Beirut Amid Fears of Israeli Attacks

29 July

Several foreign airlines, including Turkish carriers, have suspended flights to Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut due to fears of potential Israeli air force attacks. This information was confirmed by Lebanon's acting Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib during an interview with Al Jadeed TV channel.

“A number of foreign airlines have suspended flights to Beirut because they fear an Israeli attack on Lebanon,” Bou Habib stated.

Earlier, Lebanon's national airline, Middle East Airlines (MEA), announced the postponement of overnight flights from Europe and the Middle East to Beirut, rescheduling them from the evening of July 28 to the morning of July 29. The airline did not provide specific reasons for the postponement on its website. However, MEA assured passengers with bookings from London, Copenhagen, Dammam, Jeddah, Doha, and Dubai that they could change their reservations once free of charge.

The Naharnet news portal suggested that MEA's decision was influenced by the escalating military situation in southern Lebanon, where confrontations between the Israeli army and the Shiite militia Hezbollah are intensifying.
