Anand: Guterres' Visit to Kazan Reflects BRICS' Growing Importance for the West

22 October

The visit of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the BRICS summit in Kazan underscores the significance that the organization now holds, even for Western countries, Purnima Anand, head of the Indian non-governmental organization “International BRICS Forum,” told TASS ahead of the summit.

“As we have heard, the UN Secretary-General is also coming, which shows that this [BRICS summit] has global importance. It is not just about the BRICS group and the 30 countries interested in joining; it is a truly international event. I hope the presence of the United Nations indicates that BRICS has become highly significant for the West and the United States,” she said.

Anand emphasized the importance and value of the upcoming event. “Tomorrow, Kazan will become the safest place on Earth, with many world leaders arriving. This is a particularly important conference because we are living in a time of great global turbulence,” she added, referring to current international conflicts.

“Peace and regional security are of paramount importance. Therefore, we have high expectations for the 2024 BRICS summit,” noted the head of the international BRICS forum.

The BRICS summit will be held in Kazan from October 22 to 24.
