Antonov Declares US Goal of Strategic Defeat for Russia Unattainable

12 September

The goal pursued by the United States to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia is unrealistic, according to Russia's Ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov. He made this statement while commenting on recent US leadership remarks about potentially lifting restrictions on Ukraine’s ability to strike deep into Russian territory.

“The United States is gradually entangling itself deeper in the quagmire of the Ukrainian conflict,” Antonov said, emphasizing that US leadership seems willing to “sacrifice the well-being of American citizens by providing the Kyiv regime with billions of dollars in weapons and ammunition.” He added that Washington's main demand is for Ukraine to intensify its confrontation with Russian forces. “They continue to test our limits of tolerance or patience with hostile actions, all aimed at achieving the infamous strategic defeat of our country. Such plans are unattainable. F-16s, air defense systems, HIMARS, or any other weapons won’t help,” Antonov stressed, as quoted by the embassy’s press service.

The ambassador noted that the U.S. administration “stubbornly ignores Russia's interests.” He pointed out that there is increasing talk of potential strikes on Russian territory using long-range weapons. “Only a few politicians mention the possibility of a third world war, which local authorities seem to be paving the way for,” Antonov stated. He also remarked that “negotiating with terrorists is impossible” and that “any so-called peace initiatives or ceasefire proposals in Eastern Europe that disregard Russia’s national interests are simply unfeasible,” the head of the Russian diplomatic mission emphasized.
