Antonov: Putin Has Decided to Respond to AFU Attack

23 August

Russia's leadership has decided to respond decisively to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' (AFU) attack in the Kursk Region, and Kiev will face severe consequences. Russian Ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, shared this in a conversation with journalists on Thursday evening.

"I tell you sincerely that the president [Vladimir Putin] has made a decision. I am firmly convinced that everyone responsible for what happened in the Kursk region will be severely punished," the diplomat stated.

The large-scale attack by the AFU on the Kursk Region began on August 6. The region is currently under a federal emergency regime and has faced repeated missile threats. According to First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Denis Manturov, 115,000 people have been evacuated from dangerous border areas. Additionally, Acting Governor Alexei Smirnov reported that more than 133,000 people have left the Kursk border area. Temporary accommodation centers for residents forced to leave their homes have been established in 29 regions.

The Russian Defense Ministry has reported that Kiev has lost more than 4,700 servicemen and 68 tanks since hostilities began in the Kursk area. The operation to destroy the AFU formations is ongoing.
