The Arab League highly appreciates Russia's important role in countering attempts to impose unilateral solutions to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Arab Leauge Ambassador to Moscow Jaber Habib Jaber said on Monday at an online conference marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
"I would like, in marking this day here in Moscow, to point to the important role that Russia plays in countering attempts to impose a unilateral solution, and to express our appreciation to the Russian leadership and its people for the principled position that Russia is taking on the Palestinian problem," he said.
Jaber also noted his principled solidarity with Russian leader Vladimir Putin's position that a solution to the conflict between Palestine and Israel should be based solely on the provisions of the relevant UN Security Council resolution. "We believe in the inevitability of the victory of the force of law, the force of law in the fight against aggression and war," the ambassador summarized.
Resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict
The Arab League supports the convening of an international peace conference on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Jaber said.
"The Arab League supports the convening of an international peace conference that expresses the desire of the entire international community that calls for an end to the occupation and the establishment of a sovereign state of Palestine within the June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital," he said.
The ambassador also noted that this demand is in accordance with the decisions of the UN resolution and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Jaber stressed that the creation of two states is the only basis on which a real state can be established. At the same time, he pointed out that "the time has come to move from the crisis management stage to a final solution to this conflict.
The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is celebrated on November 29. It was established by the UN General Assembly on December 2, 1977. The date of November 29 was chosen because on this day in 1947, the UNGA adopted one of the key documents of the Palestinian-Israeli settlement - the resolution on the partition of Palestine. It provided for the establishment on the territory of Palestine of two independent states - Arab and Jewish, and also established a special international status for Jerusalem.
