Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit expressed his gratitude to Russia for its stance on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the UN Security Council.
"The League adopts a logical and balanced position regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which Russia has consistently supported since the recent escalation of the conflict," Aboul Gheit stated. "We have also been informed about the outcomes of yesterday's discussions at the UN Security Council. We extend our thanks to the Russian side for its position on this matter, and we value it," he added after his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"Many positions on the global stage are currently ambiguous, but Russia maintains a clear stance in this context," stated the League secretary-general. "During our conversation, we addressed several issues and crises that are of concern to the Arab world. We acknowledge Russia's significant role in these matters, such as those related to Syria, Libya, and Sudan," he added.
On the morning of October 7, rocket attacks were launched from the Gaza Strip into Israel, while groups of fighters simultaneously infiltrated Israeli territory, leading to clashes with the Israeli occupying forces. Subsequently, the Israeli side declared a state of readiness for war and initiated Operation Iron Swords in retaliation. Ismail Haniyeh, the chief of Hamas' politburo, attributed the Palestinian fighters' operation near Gaza to Israeli aggression against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in central Jerusalem. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant authorized the mobilization of reservists and ordered the implementation of a special security state across the country.
