Azerbaijan and Armenia take measures to stabilize situation after conversation of Defense Ministry heads with Shoigu

The Defense Ministries of Azerbaijan and Armenia have taken measures to stabilize the situation on the border between the two states after a conversation with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, the situation in the Kilisali mountain area has normalized. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on Tuesday.


"As a result of telephone talks with the heads of military departments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia, held on the initiative of Russian Defense Minister Army General Shoigu, the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides have taken measures to stabilize the situation. At present, the fighting in the region of Kilisaly Mountain has stopped, and the situation is normalized and under control," the statement reads.


Earlier it was reported that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu during telephone conversations called on the defense ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan to stop actions that provoke an escalation of the situation.


On Tuesday, the Armenian Defense Ministry reported that as a result of the offensive actions of the Azerbaijani forces in the eastern direction on the Armenian side there are dead and wounded, also two combat posts were lost. Chairman of the Armenian Security Council Armen Grigoryan said that the republic appealed to Russia to "protect Armenia's territorial integrity." Armenian Ambassador in Moscow Vardan Toganyan told TASS that Russia and Armenia are holding consultations through military and diplomatic channels in connection with the worsening situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
