Bangladesh Announces Simultaneous Recall of UN Envoy and Four Ambassadors

03 October

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh has simultaneously recalled four ambassadors from their diplomatic posts in Australia, Belgium, India, and Portugal, along with the country's permanent representative to the United Nations. This was stated in an official decree published by the foreign ministry.

According to The Hindustan Times, the move has surprised many diplomats, especially since some of the recalled ambassadors were nearing retirement. The decision comes amidst changes being implemented by the interim government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, following its rise to power in early August.

On August 5, amid widespread anti-government protests, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country. The protests were largely driven by students frustrated with the high unemployment rate and lack of opportunities. On August 8, an interim government, headed by Yunus, was sworn in to lead the country.
