Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed prospects for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement and coordinated efforts to restore Palestinian national unity over the phone with Fatah Central Committee member Azzam Ahmed, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the phone conversation took place on July 7 at the initiative of the Palestinian side.
"During the conversation, they discussed the prospects for a settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, as well as the continuation of coordinated efforts to restore Palestinian national unity through a dialogue between Fatah, Hamas and other Palestinian organizations on the political platform of the Palestine Liberation Organization, recognized by the international community as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people," the message reads.

The head of the Palestinian national authority, Mahmoud Abbas, also rejected the new plan, saying that the Palestinians insist on recognizing their state within the borders of 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital.
On May 19, Abbas said that Palestine had decided to terminate all agreements with Israel and the United States against the background of the Israeli government's intentions to annex Palestinian lands.
