The Russian side aims to strengthen bilateral relations with Syria in the restoration of areas such as energy, industry, transport and agriculture in the country, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said on Tuesday during a meeting in Damascus with Syrian Minister of Presidency Affairs Mansour Azzam.
Borisov noted the strengthening of positive trends in the development of the situation in Syria, in most of which, with the active assistance of Russia, it was possible to achieve a stable cessation of hostilities. According to the RF Deputy Prime Minister, further normalization should be achieved by social and economic means rather than military and political ones.
"We confirm our readiness to continue providing our Syrian friends with comprehensive assistance in all directions. We attach great importance to the development of the whole range of bilateral cooperation, with the greatest attention at the current stage being paid to issues related to the activation of bilateral ties in such priority sectoral areas as energy, industrial cooperation, transport and agriculture," he said.
Yuri Borisov also congratulated Mansour Azzam and all Syrian people on the victory of Bashar Assad in the presidential elections on May 26. He noted that the results of the vote fully confirmed the political authority of Assad and the confidence of the population in the course pursued under his leadership to stabilize the situation in Syria as soon as possible and to strengthen its state institutions.
