The heads of foreign ministries of the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) expressed concern over the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, a joint statement issued Thursday following their meeting in Cape Town reads.
"The ministers expressed serious concern over the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa region and endorsed the joint statement of the BRICS deputy foreign ministers and special envoys [adopted] at their April 26, 2023, meeting," the text reads.
The BRICS deputy foreign ministers and special envoys for the Middle East and North Africa met in a hybrid format in Cape Town on April 26 to exchange views on the current situation in the region. In a statement adopted following the meeting, participants, among other things, called on the international community to intensify efforts to support countries in the region to promote development and peace and to resolve regional conflicts through dialogue and inclusive consultations based on coordination and cooperation.
