oint exercises of special forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) "Cobalt-2021" will be held in Tajikistan from November 17 to 19. Servicemen of the Central Military District (CMD) will take part in them for the first time, the press service of the district said in a report distributed on Monday.
"For the first time, servicemen of the Central Military District will take part in a joint exercise of formations of special forces, internal affairs, state security, ministries and departments for emergency situations and drug control of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Collective Rapid Reaction Force "Cobalt-2021." The exercise will take place from 17 to 19 November at Fakhrabad training ground in Tajikistan," reads the report.
Russian military contingent will be presented by military units of special forces of the Central Military District and reconnaissance battalion of the 201st military base deployed in Tajikistan. About 60 servicemen and 10 units of military equipment, including two Mi-8MTV5-1 helicopters of the aviation group of the 201st military base, will be used from the Russian side.
Military servicemen from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan will also take part in practical actions. All participants of the exercises will practice planning and conducting an operation to destroy militants, acting as part of the special forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). "The purpose of the exercise is to improve the efficiency of preparation and conduct of joint and operational combat activities in the regions of collective security," the press service noted.
During the active phase of the exercise, the servicemen will conduct an operation to block and storm a conditionally seized building by militants using reconnaissance equipment and helicopters. It is specified that Russian servicemen will carry out a vertical airmobile coverage of the conditionally seized area with the use of Mi-8MTV5-1 helicopters hovering at a height of 20 meters and ground assault groups on BTR-80 armored personnel carriers and Tiger armored vehicles. Under the cover of sniper pairs, special forces units will conduct a landing on the roof of the seized building from helicopters using special equipment.
At the same time with this tactical maneuver, reconnaissance groups acting on Tiger armored vehicles and BTR-80 armored personnel carriers will take the area in a "crescent," blocking possible escape routes of the enemy, and come into fire contact with its combat guards. The tactical episode will conclude with the storming of a seized building and the destruction of suspected fighters.
