Charters from Russia can fly to Malaysia

15 July 2020

Russia and Malaysia may open a direct air service in the future. The launch of tourist transportation to the country's resorts was prevented by the coronavirus pandemic, ATOR reports.

According to Alexander Dolya, a marketing specialist at the Moscow office of the tourist representation of Malaysia in the Russian Federation, the state occupies one of the leading positions in terms of the minimum increase in cases per day.

At the same time, the authorities refrain from announcing deadlines for opening borders, including for countries with which tourism is expected to resume in the first place. However, as Alexander Dolya stressed, Malaysia would like to see tourists from Russia and the CIS countries this year.

"Malaysia is looking closely at the Russian market," the speaker said, noting that arrivals from Europe, including Russia, were on the rise before the pandemic. According to him, Malaysian hoteliers are ready to offer attractive prices for tourists from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan after the borders are opened.

The coronavirus has affected plans for the organization of direct flights between Russia and Malaysia. It is the lack of direct flights that tour operators consider one of the limiting factors in the growth of tourist traffic to Malaysia.

According to Alexander Dolya, before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russian tourist business was "on the verge of opening charters with Malaysia".

"This issue should have been resolved this autumn. The situation is approaching the signing of final agreements. But the plans were affected by the coronavirus, " he said. "The partners confirm that as soon as the borders open, they are ready to return to the discussion of this issue, which remains relevant." According to Alexander Dolya, the Malaysian authorities will restart international air traffic, regardless of the status of transportation, charters and regular flights will open at the same time.
