Russia was the first to provide help to the Syrian people, following the natural disaster. Inna Boritko, deputy chairman of the Association of Compatriots "Dar" and coordinator of the "Immortal Regiment" for Syria, told TASS on Thursday.
"A few hours after the earthquake, medical equipment, medicines, bandages, warm clothes, blankets and food were delivered to Latakia and Jebla by the EMERCOM planes," she shared. "Assistance from the homeland keeps coming in, with Russians sending donations, which we use to buy baby food, milk and diapers," Boritko said. - "There are orphans in hospitals who have lost their parents, and we brought children's pajamas for them."
According to her, there are still people under the rubble of buildings. "There are not enough equipment and manpower to remove the rubble, the death toll has reached several hundred and continues to grow by the hour," Boritko said. According to her, temporary accommodation centers for families left without homes and apartments are overcrowded, and many injured people are in hospitals.
She said that local doctors told her there was a shortage of medicine and medical equipment. "The facilities that house the homeless do not have enough mattresses, blankets, clothes, hygiene products," Boritko stressed. - "But members of our association, thanks to support from Russia, are collecting what people need, bringing food, water, and canned food."
According to Al Mayadeen TV, on February 9 the death toll from the earthquake in Latakia province exceeded 800, with over 142,000 residents were rendered homeless.
