The consulate general aims to enhance trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation between the regions and enterprises of Kazakhstan and those in Russia, as well as to provide consular services more conveniently.

"The consulate general's jurisdiction covers the entire territory of the Ural Federal District, including the Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, Kurgan, Tyumen oblasts, and the Perm Krai. This region is home to over 90,000 Kazakhs, including more than 7,000 Kazakh students," the press service added.

During the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Smailov and Governor of  Sverdlovsk Oblast Yevgeny Kuivashev cut the red ribbon and toured the consulate building. Smailov stated that the opening of the consulate general in the heart of the Urals will strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries. He also highlighted the significance of the Treaty of Good Neighborliness and Alliance signed by the presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia in Yekaterinburg a decade ago, which has laid a solid foundation for the expanding bilateral strategic partnership.

Smailov emphasized the importance of the Urals region in terms of its geographical proximity and established trade and economic relations with the industrially developed Sverdlovsk, Kurgan, Tyumen, Chelyabinsk oblasts, and Perm Krai. The regions and cities of Kazakhstan have established fruitful dialogues with almost all constituent entities of Russia, further enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
