Damascus says four-party meeting discussed withdrawal of Turkish forces from Syria

At the four-party meeting in Moscow, defense ministers and intelligence chiefs from Russia, Iran, Syria and Turkey discussed the situation in northern Syria, a statement of the Syrian defense ministry reads, as reported by the SANA news agency.


"The negotiators addressed the withdrawal of Turkish troops from Syrian territory," the document said. - "They also discussed the implementation of a special agreement regarding movement along the international M4 highway."


Earlier, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Mekdad called on Ankara to end its military presence in Syria. According to him, "it is impossible to speak about the normalization of relations with Turkey in conditions of the ongoing occupation of the northern regions of Syria."


According to the Russian defense ministry, on April 25 in Moscow the four-party talks of the defense ministers of Russia, Iran, Syria and Turkey took place. They discussed practical steps to strengthen security in Syria and normalize Syrian-Turkish relations. Attention was also paid to "countering terrorist threats and fighting all extremist groups on the territory of Syria."
