The route of the Russian patrol in Syria, which the US tried to block, was agreed with them a day before the incident, the head of the Russian Center for reconciliation of warring parties in Syria, Colonel Alexey Posunko told a briefing.
"In accordance with the provisions of the protocols, the route of movement, the composition of the patrol and the fact that the convoy was accompanied by helicopters was agreed on the eve of August 24, with the American side," Posunko said.
According to him, the points of entry (exit) and the route of movement of the column in the area of responsibility of the International anti-terrorist coalition were also agreed.
Posunko noted that two American MRAP armored vehicles were pursuing the Russian column.
"During the patrol, after entering the IAC [international anti - terrorist coalition] control zone, the column was chased by two American MRAP armored vehicles," Posunko said.
According to him, it was also found that "the road further along the route was blocked by two more American armored vehicles."
According the Center, on August 25 a group of the military police of the armed forces, consisting of five armored vehicles carried out a routine patrol of the territory in the North-East of Syria in the direction Baterzan (50 km East of settlement point, Qamishli) - Fawqani-Jarudiyah -Tall Asfar - Kani-Kerk - Kani-Motrol - Kasan - Rikhanik.
Air cover for the patrol was provided by army aviation helicopters, the use of which is permitted by the current Russian-American protocols on the deconfliction procedure of December 9, 2019.
