The Egyptian Defense Ministry expects to bring all spheres of military cooperation with their Russian counterparts to a qualitatively new level, Colonel General Mohammed Ahmed Zaki, Egypt's Minister of Defense and Military Industry, said on Tuesday during a meeting of the joint Russian-Egyptian commission on military-technical cooperation, which took place in Moscow.

"The progress achieved in such a short period in the development of various areas of our military cooperation once again confirms that we are on the right path. We are eager to further develop this cooperation in all areas and in the spirit of mutual trust," Zaki said at the start of the meeting.

He noted the mutual desire of the political leadership of the two countries to revive the long-standing relations of friendship linking the Russian and Egyptian peoples. "This is especially important in light of the increasing level and diversity of threats in their standard and non-standard forms caused by the deteriorating international security situation," the minister said.

He also stated the need to restore stability and security in the Middle East, while rejecting outside interference in the internal affairs of other states under various pretexts.

General Zaki thanked his friend Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu for the invitation to the Army forum, as well as for his attention in carrying out the tasks of bilateral military-technical cooperation.
