Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke to Russian leader Vladimir Putin about Turkey's participation in monitoring the truce in Nagorno-Karabakh at the joint center in Azerbaijan. The administration of the Turkish leader informs about it.
"Our president held telephone conversations with Vladimir Putin. He noted that last night the right step was taken towards a stable settlement of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. Erdogan stated that Turkey would carry out, together with Russia, observation and supervision activities of the ceasefire on the basis of the joint center to be established in the area defined by Azerbaijan in the territory liberated from the occupation of Armenia," the report says.
It is noted that the truce achieved is "an important contribution that Turkey and Russia have made together and this opportunity should be used to establish just and lasting peace and stability in the region".
A source in the Russian Foreign Ministry, in turn, explained that Ankara's role in peacemaking activities in Nagorno-Karabakh was limited to the bilateral ceasefire monitoring center.
"The statement made by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of the Russian Federation on November 9 this year clearly defines the agreed parameters for further settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," he said, answering a question about Turkey's participation along with Russia in peacemaking activities in Nagorno-Karabakh.
He recalled that "in accordance with this document, a peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is deployed along the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor".
"Turkey's role is limited to the framework of the Russian-Turkish center for ceasefire control and is not directly related to the peacekeeping operation," a source in the Russian Foreign Ministry said. The center will be established on Azerbaijani territory not adjacent to Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to the source, it is assumed that from this center, the Russian military, together with Turkish colleagues, will monitor the truce using existing technical means.
"Military departments are working out the details of the center's operation," he concluded.

Earlier the heads of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan adopted a joint statement on ceasefire in Karabakh. According to the statement voiced by President Vladimir Putin, a full ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh begins on November 10, Azerbaijan and Armenia stop at occupied positions, as well as exchange prisoners of war. Russian peacekeepers will also be stationed in Karabakh. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted in his statement that the agreement was an extremely hard decision for him. In turn, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev called the signing of the document the surrender of Armenia. According to him, the agreement is maximally beneficial for Baku, now the military phase is over and it is possible to move on to political issues.
