Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, during a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday, expressed gratitude for his constructive stance on the extension of the grain deal.
"During the talks, the two sides discussed regional issues, particularly relations between Turkey and Russia and developments on the grain corridor. President Erdogan thanked Russian President Putin for his constructive stance on extending the Istanbul agreement on grain exports for 120 days," the Turkish leader's office told reporters.
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday that the grain deal signed in Istanbul in July was extended for 120 days. The Russian foreign ministry explained that the deal was automatically extended due to the absence of objections from the parties involved (Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, and the United Nations).
Agreements on food exports from Ukraine were made on July 22 in Istanbul for 120 days. One of the agreements is valid until November 19 and regulates the order of grain exports from the Kiev-controlled ports of Odessa, Chernomorsk and Yuzhny. A joint coordination center in Istanbul, established by Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UN, is designed to inspect vessels carrying grain in order to prevent arms smuggling and exclude provocations.
