Foreign ministers of 27 EU countries will approve the ninth package of sanctions against Iran, which Brussels said was responsible for human rights violations, at a planned meeting in Luxembourg on June 26. A senior EU official told reporters in Brussels on Friday.
"The ninth package of sanctions against Iran will be approved," he said.
The diplomat stressed once again that despite the EU's regular imposition of sanctions against Tehran, Brussels still expects to reach an agreement on Iran's nuclear program.
The EU has previously imposed eight packages of sanctions against Iran for human rights violations in this country. The restrictions include the freezing of European assets, a ban on entry into the European Union and a ban on European business on any business contacts with the blacklisted persons. Earlier, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell suggested that the permanent introduction of new EU sanctions against Iran should not affect the efforts to renew the nuclear deal with Iran, which should guarantee that Tehran's nuclear program is exclusively peaceful in nature.
