More than 1,000 Russian servicemen of the 201st military base have started exercises on the destruction of illegal armed groups in Tajikistan. This is stated in a report circulated by the press service of the Central Military District (CMD) on Monday.
On March 11, units of the base made a 300-km march and arrived at the Kharb-Maidon firing range, where the exercises are being held.
"A tactical exercise involving more than 1,000 Russian servicemen of the 201st Russian military base has started at the Kharb-Maidon training ground in Tajikistan. <...> During the main stage of the exercise, which will take place on March 18, the servicemen will practice an operation to block and destroy illegal armed groups using reconnaissance-fire and reconnaissance-attack complexes," the report says.
Tactical exercises will be held from March 14 to 18. More than 1 thousand Russian servicemen will take part in them, and over 300 units of armament, military and special equipment with the use of army aviation helicopters will be involved.
The 201st military base stationed in Tajikistan is the largest Russian military facility outside Russia. It is located in two cities - Dushanbe and Bokhtar. It includes motorized rifles, tanks, artillery, reconnaissance, air defense, and communications units.
