Russia plays an important role in ensuring stability in the Middle East, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Hussein Abdallah al-Safadi said on Wednesday at talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Opening the talks, Lavrov said that Russia greatly values Jordan's views on regional security issues and offered, in addition to bilateral relations, to discuss such topics as the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, the Palestinian-Israeli settlement, the situation in Syria, Iraq and developments in the Persian Gulf.
For his part, the Jordanian Foreign Minister expressed his hope for a thorough discussion of these topics. "I look forward to a frank and friendly dialogue on all issues of interest, including regional issues. I hope that this will contribute to strengthening stability and security in our region. <...> Jordan is convinced that Russia has an important role to play in ensuring stability in the region," he pointed out.
