31 July

Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held discussions with Iranian President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian on economic and cultural cooperation. The meeting, reported by the official newspaper Neytralny Turkmenistan, took place during Meredov’s visit to Iran for Pezeshkian's inauguration ceremony.

During their conversation, Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of strengthening agreements on developing partnerships in the fuel and energy sector, electricity, transport, and transit. He praised Turkmenistan for its significant contributions to universal projects and highlighted the country's key initiatives in these areas.

Both leaders acknowledged the positive progress in their bilateral and multilateral dialogue and within international organizations. They noted that recent interactions between the two nations in political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres have been enriched with new dimensions.

Earlier, Turkmenistan's leader congratulated Pezeshkian on his election victory, expressing confidence that their joint efforts would further enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries for the benefit of their peoples. Turkmenistan and Iran share a 1,100 km land border and are neighbors on the Caspian Sea.

The inauguration ceremony for the new Iranian president took place in Tehran on July 30 at the Majlis building and was attended by representatives from at least 80 countries. The Russian delegation was led by State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin. On July 28, Iran's spiritual leader Ali Khamenei signed a decree officially appointing Pezeshkian as head of the executive branch.
