04 June 2020

Moscow is deeply concerned about the events in the West of Libya, the humanitarian truce is being violated, and the continuation of hostilities threatens disaster,  Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"If we talk about the overall situation, we are deeply concerned about the development of events in the West of Libya. We are concerned about the increasing number of crimes committed by armed police. They include fighters displaced from Syria, including members of the UN Security Council-listed terrorist organization Jabhat al-Nusra, which is recognized as a terrorist organization. It acts under a new brand - "Hayat Tahrir al-sham" (both groups are banned in Russia)," Zakharova said at a briefing.

According to her, the humanitarian truce that was declared by the Libyan National Army on the occasion of Ramadan and against the background of the pandemic is being violated, and armed groups continue fighting.

As Zakharova stressed, " the continuation of such actions will lead to an aggravation of the systemic crisis, which threatens Libya and its people with disastrous consequences."
