The Grand Mufti of India, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, was at an official visit to Dagestan, with the head of the Indian religious complex "City of knowledge" Dr. Muhammad Abdul Karim Al-Kanidi.
The guest from South Asia visited the Chairman of the Council of Alims (theologians) of the Republic of Dagestan, mufti Sheikh Ahmad Afandi. The visit to Russia was exploratory one. Abubakr Ahmad was told about the development of Islam in Dagestan, the structure of the Dagestan mufti, the directions of his activities. Dagestan mufti Ahmad Afandi, in his turn, asked about the state of the Islamic sphere in India, opportunities for education in the country.
80-year-old Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad is one of the most influential modern Islamic theologians. Since 2009, the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre of Jordan annually includes him in the ranking of the 500 Most Influential Muslims.
