The diversity of cultures of Muslim countries will be widely represented in the films included in the parallel programs – ‘Russia – Islamic World’ and ‘Hindustan’ – of the XVII Kazan International Festival of Muslim Cinema. The out-of-competition programs were created by Sergey Anashkin, a well-known cinematographer, member of the NETPAC International Organization and the Russian Union of Cinematographers.
We would like to remind that the Group of Strategic Vision ‘Russia – Islamic World’ is traditionally a partner of the Kazan International Festival of Muslim Cinema. The special prize ‘For the Dialogue of Cultures in the Islamic World’ established by the Group with a monetary reward of 300 thousand rubles will be traditionally awarded this year to one of the 10 films in the Russia – Islamic World special program.
According to Sergey Anashkin, the Russia – Islamic World parallel program included films from Iran, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Turkey and Sudan. All the selected films have a good festival reputation.
In general, the parallel program was chosen on the basis of the two main lines – to showcase the elements of traditional culture of different countries and to demonstrate the existing contemporary issues.
Visitors of the Kazan Film Festival will have a unique opportunity to see on the big screen both parables referring to folklore and dramatic works that tell about the problems in different parts of the world. For instance, Film Directors from Kazakhstan and Nigeria raise the issue of independence of modern women, who often face the difficult choice of following marriage traditions or arranging their lives independently.
‘In this program, I wanted to show not so much politics but rather diversity of cultures of those countries that are the members of the Group of Strategic Vision ‘Russia – Islamic World’, Segey Anashkin noted.
The Kazan International Festival of Muslim Cinema will be held in the capital of Tatarstan from 5 to 10 September, with the support of Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan.
