National leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty (People's Council, the highest representative body) Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has accepted an invitation from Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to visit the Islamic Republic.
Raisi invited Berdimuhamedov in his congratulatory message on the occasion of Turkmenistan's Constitution and State Flag Day, celebrated on May 18. His text was cited Monday by the official newspaper Neytralny Turkmenistan.
"I express my sincere gratitude for the congratulatory message and the invitation to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran. With great gratitude I accept your invitation and am convinced that the upcoming visit will be an important step towards strengthening the friendship and multifaceted partnership between Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran," Berdimuhamedov wrote in response. The text of his letter was also published on Monday.
Raisi expressed gratitude to the chairman of the People's Council for the strong position and the will shown by Turkmenistan in a comprehensive increase in cooperation between the two countries in international and bilateral formats. "Mainly on transit, in the water and energy sectors, an example of which is the recent increase in the volume of gas transit through the Islamic Republic of Iran. I am looking forward to your upcoming visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran in the near future, where I hope to discuss various cooperation vectors in political, economic and cultural spheres at a meeting in Tehran," the Iranian president wrote.
Berdimuhamedov also noted the current high level of openness and mutual understanding between Ashgabat and Tehran, the proximity of positions on key issues on the international agenda. "Stressing the intensive build-up and substantially new content of the Turkmen-Iranian dialogue in all priority areas, I fully share your opinion that there are great opportunities for further expansion and bringing our partnership to a higher level," he concluded.
The dates of Berdimuhamedov's visit to Iran are not specified.
