Hamas Criticizes Joint Statement on Gaza for Not Addressing Core Palestinian Concerns

26 April

The joint statement on the Gaza Strip, signed by 18 countries including the United States, does not cover the main issues currently facing the Palestinian people, such as a ceasefire in the Strip and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave, according to a special memorandum by the Palestinian Hamas movement.

"The 18-nation statement essentially calls for the release of those held  in Gaza, but does not address the basic problems of the Palestinian people, including a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip," the document stated on Hamas' Telegram channel.

The movement expressed disappointment with the stance taken by the countries that signed the joint statement and reiterated its readiness "for any ideas and proposals that take into account the just demands and rights of the Palestinians."
