Hamas Rejects Trump's Proposal to Relocate Palestinians from Gaza

05 February

The Hamas movement has rejected US President Donald Trump's proposal to relocate Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip to Arab countries under the pretext of rebuilding the enclave. This was stated by Hamas spokesperson Izzat al-Rishq in an official statement published on the movement's Telegram channel.

"We reject the statement by US President Donald Trump, in which he calls on our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip to leave their homeland under the pretext of reconstruction," the statement reads. Al-Rishq emphasized that the American president's proposal constitutes "a blatant attempt to eradicate the Palestinian cause."

Earlier, Reuters reported, citing a senior US administration official, that Trump considers Gaza a "demolition zone" and deems it "inhumane to force people to live on uninhabitable land." According to the US president, it would take 10–15 years to rebuild Gaza.

On January 25, Trump suggested to journalists that residents of Gaza who had lost their homes due to Israeli military operations could be resettled in Arab countries. However, on January 26, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi reiterated the kingdom's opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry also deemed the violation of Palestinian rights, including their right to land, unacceptable. On January 31, Trump expressed confidence that Egypt and Jordan would accept the Palestinian refugees.
